VM Security : On the outside looking in

Zazen is a security framework designed for the cloud, made uniquely possible by Xen.  Many security problems plague virtualized environments due to resource contention and inability to scale, whereas Zazen explicitly attempts to solve such issues. To protect virtual machines, Zazen uses several of Xen’s newest features to safely, scalably inspect VM state and memory. Notably, Zazen has no need for an in-guest agent or patches to the hypervisor. In this presentation, Matthew and Steven will show how Xen’s architecture explicitly supports the pursuit of security and the construction of security tools. They will also discuss the Xen memory events subsystem and how it provides an ideal mechanism for OS monitoring, researcher, and VM security.
